Disability Concerns

Everyone belongs. Everyone Serves.

The Disability Concerns ministry of the Christian Reformed Church in North America assists churches to promote and foster relationships, and communities where everybody belongs and everybody serves. At Bethel, we are determined to:

  • think and act in keeping with the biblical call regarding people with disabilities;
  • create a welcoming and open environment for people with disabilities to explore and live out their faith;
  • engage people with disabilities in ministry.

Current and past editions of Disability Concerns' quarterly newsletter entitled, "Breaking Barriers" are available online.

Friendship Club

Everyone Belongs. Everyone Serves.

The purpose of the Friendship program is to nurture the spiritual growth of people with intellectual disabilities in the context of personal and meaningful relationships. Bethel CRC hosts a Friendship Club every Tuesday evening at 7 pm from September to April.  Participants with special needs are paired with a mentor friend for encouragement and support.  Here's how the evening works:

  • Most nights we begin in a large group with singing, sharing, and prayer.
  • Next, a Bible lesson is shared, often with group participation.
  • This is followed by one-on-one time, where mentors and friends meet to discuss the Bible lesson often while working on activities related to the Bible study.
  • Finally, the group gathers enjoys social time with refreshments. The meeting ends at 8 pm.
