“Weep” - June 2, 2021

“Weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15)

215.

Many of us have seen that number over the last several days.  It is the number of unmarked graves of children uncovered last weekend, graves of children who died while attending one of Canada’s residential schools in Kamloops, British Columbia.  There are so many reactions, several coming together at once: horror, shock, disbelief, betrayal revisited, profound sadness and grief - to name just some of them.

We want to pray yet hardly know what or how so we can only begin to pray.  We can only begin to pray with lament, with pleas for mercy, with heavy hearts of repentance.  We can only begin to pray by weeping with those who weep.  We can only begin to pray for God to push back the darkness.

Come, Lord Jesus, come. (Revelation 22:20)

The following song of lament is entitled  “Drive Out the Darkness” and offered by Porter’s Gate.  The text of the song is included below, following the song’s link.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpGu359wRjE

[Chorus]

Come, O Come

Be our light

Drive out the darkness

Come, Jesus, Come

[Verse 1]

Every year under the thorn

Every wrong that we have known

Every valley will be raised

Ancient ruins will be remains

[Chorus]

Come, O Come

Be our light

Drive out the darkness

Come, Jesus, Come

[Verse 2]

Every weapon made for war

Every gun and every sword

Will be melted in the flamе

To be used for gardening

[Chorus]

Comе, O Come

Be our light

Drive out the darkness

Come, Jesus, Come
