“Ponder” - April 28, 2020

“Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.” Psalm 111:2

For many of us these days of restriction have been a struggle.  For some of us this time has been a struggle that has been added to other already existing struggles, compounding our challenges.  For yet others some current restrictions may not have significantly changed life because of previous limitations due to life circumstance, medical condition or age.

Without discounting our challenges, the poet in Psalm 111 encourages us to “ponder.”  If anything, during this pandemic most people have spent extra time pondering, reflecting and thinking about the big issues of life.  Interestingly, Psalm 111 directs our reflection toward the great works of God in which we can delight.

We are directed toward the craft and beauty of the created world.  We can look to the generations who have witnessed God’s faithful care and the reoccurring rescue of his people.  We can study God’s outstanding qualities of graciousness, compassion and trustworthiness.   We can ponder and all the while rest in the permanency of God’s covenant promises.

Among all the very real challenges of life, let’s ponder anew the great works of God, the love of Jesus Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit - and find delight in them!

PRAYER ENCOURAGEMENT:  Lord, help us to find time to seek you only and ponder anew your great works and delight in you.  Carry us above our challenges as we thank you for your faithfulness, compassion, graciousness and righteousness.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
