“In Stillness Waits” - December 9, 2020
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.” (NLT)
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” (ESV)
Last week, I mentioned the plethora of devotionals available during Advent. For myself, simply by virtue of my connection to a few websites, I receive more daily advent readings in my inbox than I can digest meaningfully during the season. I can only choose one or two. Hence, during advent we are placing our emphasis here on the advent stillness by which our soul waits through song.
As we pray the prayer of the song-link below, let us follow the lead of poet in Psalm 62 directing our hearts toward the quiet spiritual reflection and self-examination characteristic of the ‘waiting-on-the-Lord’ posture of the advent season. Please note the opening addresses of each stanza-prayer: “O Lord of Light,” “O Spring of Joy,” “O Root of Life,” and “O Key of Knowledge.”
Today’s song My Soul in Stillness Waits based on Psalm 62:5 is offered by Jocelyn Beldman (a former Bethel member living in Antigua). This song can also be found in the Faith Alive Christian Resources hymnal LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS # 63.
