This week the monthly CHURCH NOW CONVERSATION (see also Vibrant Churches website below) via ZOOM featured the scholar, speaker, author and columnist Lisa Sharon Harper. She has written a popular book entitled THE VERY GOOD GOSPEL. Her talk outlined the historical and philosophical roots of hierarchal thinking about race and what it means to be human. Ms. Harper also showed how such thinking over time became even more entrenched and assumed in Europe and North America. She called our conversation group to strive for “the Beloved Community” in which everyone can live together moving forward, using a vision inspired by Scripture and specifically Psalm 85. “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth and righteousness looks down from heaven.” (Psalm 85:10-11) Although tilted toward the American context, there was much to be learned and gleamed as a Canadian follower of Jesus.
ps. In a week or less this talk should be up on the Vibrant Churches website. Here is a link to their Resources Page which includes other inspirational conversations … https://vibrantcongregations.org/resources/ -EGN
