I’m very excited for next weekend as I plan to be with my mother who was born June 15, 1928, making her 90 years old this year!! It is quite a birthday number to mark as we know from a number of our own members here at Bethel Church.
I look forward to being together with immediate family as well as the more extended family at some point - and look forward to being with my mother herself. Of course, as her son, I think she’s a great person to be around. However, I also think that’s one of her unique gifts, making people feel welcome and accepted in her presence. Besides the more commonly considered hospitality that she offers (refreshments, cookies, a nice meal), she exudes a kind of emotional hospitality and space. After one visit my mother made to Bethel Church, a member came up to me later and said enthusiastically, “I think if your mom and I lived closer, we would be great friends!’
“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
