The November series on prayer patterned after the title of the Anne Lamott book “Help, Thanks, Wow” feels like it’s gone by too quickly. There are so many angles of reflection possible on prayer that it seems such series has a lot farther to go but there may be more opportunities in the future. And of course, we don’t want to just reflect on prayer; we want to actually practice it.
This week someone was speaking to me about last week’s WOW prayer message and the power of the words of encouragement that Paul gives in Ephesians 3, words that provoke a WOW at God’s great rescuing love. As we continue to encourage each other in prayer, let’s remind ourselves of this prayer and use it for one another:
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
