Last Tuesday evening about 25 people gathered at Bethel Church (some members of Good News Church also joined us!) to be part of a workshop with Rev. Lesli van Milligen of the Christian Reformed Church’s Faith Formation Ministry. As part of her presentation, she led us through an exercise of identifying our church community’s “assets” or strengths and led us in a discussion on how we might leverage energy and gifts already present. In doing so, we encourage each other in faith formation, as we look to grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Faith Formation Ministries reminds us that our growth in the Christian faith is continuous, from early childhood and all throughout life, no matter how young we are or how old we become. Especially as the make-up, structure and habits of many churches change, we can learn and adapt so that faith formation continues to be a strong part of our following Jesus together. We were encouraged to think of creative and simultaneously uncomplicated ways to encourage and shape each other in our faith journeys, especially mindful of engaging our children and youth. It was a worthwhile evening of building each other up and is worthy of follow-up conversations. –EGN
