I am part of a support group of pastors that is supported by our denomination’s Pastor Church Resources (PCR) ministry. You may have read about various types of pastor peer groups over the years in the denomination’s magazine THE BANNER or by other means. The particular group I’m a part of currently has its origins in a series of retreats that were held across North America last year at this time. The retreats aimed especially at later career pastors and were meant as an opportunity to share insights and learning in this unique phase of ministry. The ideal held up was that of ‘thriving’ in ministry, as thriving and flourishing really is hoped for all ministry and all service in God’s kingdom. Hence, the group that I’m a part of is composed of later career pastors (meeting by ZOOM of course) and involves 4 American CRC pastors and 3 Canadian, a healthy mix. As we’ve shared, prayed and studied together, the group has been a source of encouragement and strength for everyone, especially now as we (including you) all together are additionally journeying ministry through these unusual and challenging times.
Whatever circumstance and context, let’s aim to live out this instruction: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
